Characterize a nonlinear machine

The source describes a 6/4, 2 kW switched reluctance generator delivered without detailed electromagnetic information. Its strongly nonlinear characteristics were a central difficulty for the control model.

Measure across rotor position

Locked-rotor testing with AC excitation covered aligned through unaligned rotor positions to identify nonlinear flux-linkage behavior. The source connects this characterization with back-EMF, torque and phase turn-on/turn-off considerations.

Model the phases and add feed-forward

The project used MATLAB/Simulink to examine sequential phase excitation, then deployed the algorithm to a dSPACE prototype controller. Estimated back-EMF was fed forward in real time to address current overshoot associated with the machine’s nonlinearity.
