Externally Excited Synchronous Motor

Parameter identification and nonlinear modeling for an initially undocumented production machine.

Start with a machine, not a complete model

The source describes an externally excited synchronous motor taken from a production BMW vehicle, with insufficient electromagnetic information for control development. No specific current BMW model application is asserted here.

02 /

Characterize the effect of rotor excitation

Dynamometer experiments maintained rotor winding current at selected levels while identifying nonlinear d-axis and q-axis inductance characteristics. The document describes recording Ld and Lq as two-dimensional maps associated with each rotor-current level.

03 /

Build the plant and controller models

The identified characteristics were used to build EESM plant and controller models in MATLAB/Simulink. Separating rotor-excitation conditions is important to retaining the behavior described by the characterization.

04 /

Reported model and efficiency map

The supplied account reports obtaining an efficiency map on the dynamometer and building an offline simulation model. No numerical efficiency improvement, model-error bound or public test dataset is provided.

The characterization, efficiency map and model completion are self-reported in the supplied company document. No independent results dataset or project video was supplied for this case.

Supporting material

Technical details are documented in the supplied project record. No public demonstration link was supplied for this project.
